Akademie der Bildenden Künste Nürnberg

The Akademie der Bildenden Künste Nürnberg is a state university for Fine and Applied Arts in Nuremberg. The Nuremberg Academy of Fine Arts was in 1662 by the aldermen Joachim Nützel of Sündersbühl , the engraver Jacob Sandrart and the architect of Elias Gedeler founded and is the oldest art academy in Germany.

1674, the Academy, after several changes of location, in a room in the former Franciscan monastery housed. In 1699 Akademie der Bildenden Künste Nürnberg was recognized as a rich urban institution and placed under the supervision of the Building Department. In the same year was the engraver and astronomer Georg Christoph Eimmart transfer the management and the business was transferred to St. Catherine’s Monastery . The study focused on the life drawing and the study of antiquities. Modeled after the Paris Protectorate constitution of 1704 the City Council issued “Regulations for the Academy of Painting.”

Akademie der Bildenden Künste Nürnberg

In July 2011 took place at the Akademie der Bildenden Künste Nürnberg held in preparation of the 350 Years’ Anniversary of the existence of an art historian meeting. The conference “The Academy of Fine Arts in the city of the Party Rallies” examined include the integration of the teachers at the academy with the National Socialist regime and the regime conducive to what extent were artistic works. Participants included Hans Otto Meyer , Birgit Schwarz, Doris Gerstl, Thomas Heyden, Frank Matthias Kammel.

With the exhibition hall and the Academy Gallery features the Akademie der Bildenden Künste Nürnberg, both via a spacious exhibition space at the base building as well as gallery spaces in the city center of Nuremberg.
