The Centre for Media and Communication has been offering an M.A programme in Media and Communication since 2000. For the first time this year, we are running a programme for undergraduate students. This new course in Mass Communication and Journalism offers a student who has passed his Intermediate (10 plus 2) examination an opportunity to acquire comprehensive theoretical and practical knowledge required for a wide range of careers in the rapidly growing media field.
Each academic year will consist of two semesters, and in each semester you will be registering for four courses. In all, during your three years with us, you will be taking 24 courses. The first four semesters will introduce you to the history, theory, production principles, and key debates that are shaping the field of media. In the final two semesters, you will choose an area of specialization in which you will complete an internship with a media organization and write a project report.
What makes our programme different is that in addition to the 20 courses you’ll be doing in the area of Mass Communication and Journalism, we also provide you an opportunity to learn a foreign language. You have a wide range to choose from: Arabic, French, German, Japanese, Russian and Spanish. You may choose to specialize in one of these languages for four semesters. If you do not wish to learn a foreign language, you can take courses in the areas of English Literature or Cultural Studies.
What if I want to do an M.A in Mass Communication and Journalism?
If you do well in the three years you are with us and pass out with an aggregate of 55% or more, then you have the option of continuing your studies with us for another two years and pass out with an M.A in Mass Communication and Journalism. If you don’t meet this minimum requirement, don’t worry. All you’ll have to do is write the entrance test for admission to our M.A programme, and if you qualify, you’ll be back with us.
Admission
Your admission to our B.A (Hons) programme is going to depend on how well you do on our entrance test. This test is usually held in the month of June in various centres across the country. Keep checking this website frequently in May, and we’ll keep you posted as to when and where the test will be held.
