BISHOP’S COLLEGE in the British Raj to Bengal Engineering College in Independent INDIA and then to the status of a Deemed University and finally to a State University has been a long journey. In the Year 1996, to celebrate the 140th year of foundation, we launched this Page to emphasize the contribution this college has made to the development of Engineering Studies and Technology in this country and abroad.Every year hundreds of students from this premier Institution form the creme-de-la-creme of administration , management and technocracy , both in the Public & Private sector corporations. Established in 24th November 1856 occupying three rooms in Writers’ Building to meet the requirement of trained Engg. personel for Public Works Department as Civil Engineering College ,was affiliated to the Calcutta University in May 1857.
Library
The University library has the distinction of being one of the oldest and the largest resourceful technical library in the south east Asia.The library not only caters to the basic information needs of faculty members, research scholars and students of this University but also provides information services to research workers of neighbouring universities and research institutes in the state.
