Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus was founded in 1991 as the only technical university in Brandenburg, Germany. Located in Cottbus, in English it is often called Technical University of Cottbus or TU Cottbus. Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus hosts 6,400 students and 1,218 employees. 125 of these are professors, 526 are scientific assistants and 562 are non-scientific assistants. About 15% (930 students) of the student population are of foreign origin.
Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus has been a school for construction engineering in the former GDR starting from 1954. After the German reunification the school became a Technical University and was finally renamed into Brandenburg Technical University in 1994. In the following years the university has undergone major construction efforts and the number of students has continuously grown ever since.
Mission
Founded in 1991, it is Brandenburgische Technische Universität Cottbus only technical university. More than 6,722 students, including 986 international students from approx 92 countries: the largest contingents are from China, Cameroon, Poland, Bulgaria, India, Ukraine, and Ghana.
Library
The new library was opened in the year 2004 and is called Informations-, Kommunikations- und Medienzentrum (IKMZ). It was designed by the famous architects Herzog & de Meuron.
