The Burg Giebichenstein Hochschule für Kunst und Design Halle (Castle Hall) is an art school in Halle an der Saale . The English name is Giebichenstein University of Art and Design in Halle. Burg Giebichenstein Hochschule für Kunst und Design Halle has its seat on the Giebichenstein above the right bank hall on the northern border (arts campus) and at the east of the mill race Neuwerk (Campus Design).
Today’s art school Giebichenstein goes to the Commercial character and craft school in the town hall back. This school was built in 1879 by merging the existing since 1852 provincial trade school hall and the existing Industrial Drawing School since 1870. With his inauguration as the first director July 1915 was the architect Paul Thiersch new impetus to the school. The school was now called craft and art school hall. Thiersch they reformed in accordance with the ideas of the German Werkbund and there arose the classes for painting, printmaking, sculpture, architecture, textile design, photography and carpentry.
