Calumet College of St. Joseph (CCSJ) is a small, family-oriented, four-year college offering master’s, bachelor’s, and associate’s degrees as well as certificate programs. We serve a diverse student population that represents the Calumet area (Northwest Indiana and Northeast Illinois). Since many of our students work and raise families, Calumet College provides both full-time and part-time study options as well as day and evening classes that meet once or twice a week. In addition, students may be awarded credit for life experience.

Our small class sizes enhance the learning process and provide personal attention from faculty. CCSJ has no out-of-state tuition differential and is conveniently housed in a single building with plenty of free parking. The college’s main campus is easy to reach: near the Skyway, Indiana Toll Road and the Cline Avenue extension, and just 30 minutes from downtown Chicago.

In 1951 the Missionaries of the Precious Blood established an educational outpost in Northwest Indiana. They served a community like their patron St. Joseph: selfless, hardworking, and devoted to family. In church basements and empty storefronts, they educated the sons and daughters of millworkers and first generation college students. Offering the Calumet Region’s first bachelor degree, the College changed lives. Providing access to education, the College grew. A move to Whiting accommodated expansion. In 1973, Amoco donated the building that currently serves as our 6-story “vertical campus.” During these early years, the College’s visionary mission was defined: to serve the Calumet Region by offering a quality education in the Catholic tradition.

Mission
Calumet College of St. Joseph is a degree-granting, Catholic institution of higher education sponsored by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood (C.PP.S.). The college prepares graduates for careers and graduate school with academic and professional programs based on a strong foundation in the liberal arts and sciences. These programs are designed to empower graduates to improve their lives and the lives of their families. In an academically challenging and flexible environment dedicated to student learning, the college acknowledges and respects the dignity and worth of each individual. Serving a richly diverse student population, the college encourages differing views, fosters personal growth, and promotes the formation of spiritual, moral, and ethical values in support of social justice and personal responsibility.
