Chandrayyan-1 Mission Aborted:
In a Major blow to India’s maiden mission to the Moon, the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) abruptly lost contact with Chandrayaaan-1 at 01.30 a.m. on August 29. The Chandrayaan-1 mission had come to an end in ten months instead of its slated life of two years. The Spacecraft had completed 312 days in orbit, making more than 3,400 orbits around the Moon. It provided a large amount of data from its sophisticated instruments such as the Terrain Mapping Camera, the Hyper-Spectral Imager, the Moon Minerology Mapper and so on.

The unmanned craft was launched last October (’08). The launch was seen as a major step for India as it seeks to keep pace with other space-faring Asian Nations. According to ISRO Chief G Madhavan Nair, despite the termination of the mission, the project was a great success and 95 per cent of its objectives had been completed. From it we could collect a large volume of data, including 70,000 of the Moon.
