Affected by the annexation of his native Alsace, he had found the lack of chemistry education in France, which led to failure an important weakness of French industry relative to its neighbors. The Finance Act dated 28 December 1895 allowed him to create in the Faculty of Paris the chemistry laboratory and industrial practice. Friedel en assure la direction jusqu’en 1899. Friedel leads the department until 1899.
