Colby combines world-class academic programs with an active campus life that offers students countless leadership and volunteer options and rich opportunities after graduation. Students work closely with professors, exploring new ideas, stretching to expand their knowledge and perceptions of the world: this is the core of a Colby education. Faculty members—world-class teachers and scholars committed to liberal arts education—collaborate with students in a learning experience that is transformational for both.

Founded in 1813, Colby College is the 12th-oldest independent liberal arts college in the nation, and in 1871 it became the first previously all-male college in New England to admit women. Before World War II, trustees voted to move the College from its crowded site in downtown Waterville to a campus that overlooks the city and now comprises 714 acres. Since 1937 the College has built 62 buildings on Mayflower Hill. In 2004 the developed portion of the campus was expanded with the opening of the Colby Green, where two new buildings have been completed and another is planned.

Students choose from courses in 52 major fields and have wide flexibility in designing independent study programs, electing special majors, and participating in internships and study-abroad programs. Colby has one of most popular study abroad programs, with over two-thirds of students studying abroad at some point. Colby has its own programs in Salamanaca, Spain, Dijon, France, and St Petersburg, Russia. Colby also has an exchange program with Pomona.

They provide access to more than 100 electronic databases and more than 47,500 electronic journals. Computer labs, wireless networks, laptops, study areas, and a listening center are available for student use[
