Definition of Conflict Management: Mental struggle resulting from opposing needs, drives, wishes, or external or Internal Demands.

Nature of Conflict:
Conflict is inhabitable in any group i.e., together. Different people will have different view points, ideas, or opinions. Conflict also occurs whenever there is no internal harmony within a person.

Levels of Conflict:
Interpersonal: Conflict In between mind
Interpersonal: Conflict between 2 people
Intragroup: Conflict between two different people

Sources of Conflict:

  • Different values and beliefs
  • Role pressure or clarification
  • Perception difference
  • Diverse goals or objectives
  • Group statis or identify
  • Race, Ethnicity or gender difference
  • Personality clash or conflict
  • Completion for limited resources
  • Disagreement on how things should be done
  • Personal Self or group interest
  • Tension and Stress
  • Power and Influence

Negative forces of Conflict:

  1. Divert attention from important issues
  2. May damage morale
  3. May cause Polarization
  4. Re-inforce difference in value
  5. Produce irresponsible and regrettable behaviour

Positive Source of Conflict:

  1. Stimulates Interest
  2. Means for problems to be heard
  3. Increase cohesiveness
  4. Promotes changes
  5. Provides means to work together

Methods of Managing Conflict:

  1. Deny or Avoidance
  2. Suppression
  3. Dominance
  4. Third Party Intervention
  5. Compromise and Negotiate
  6. Interrogation or Collaboration
