École des Mines d’Alès is located in the South of France, between the Cevennes and Mediterranean, 45 km and 90 km from Nimes to Montpellier. Capital of the Cevennes, sub-prefecture of the Gard, Ales now has about 40,000 inhabitants. Industrial center of Languedoc-Roussillon, Ales is known for silk and textiles, followed by coal and iron. Today, École des Mines d’Alès has revived its economic development around areas of expertise and federated served by a unique structure: MYRIAPOLIS.
The Ecole des Mines d’Ales, or EMA, under the supervision of the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Employment, is a great engineering school French GP . Founded in 1843 by Louis-Philippe by royal decree, the school is the one of the oldest engineering schools . Historically based in Ales, she now has extensions to Nîmes and Pau. She is a member of the Conference of Colleges and Schools Group mines.
École des Mines d’Alès is a national public administrative nature ( EPA ) under the Ministry for Industry. School of Mines, are organized in a network within the GEM (Group of Schools of Mines): Mines ParisTech , of Albi-Carmaux of Douai , of Nantes , of St. Stephen and Nancy . Schools have a joint research organization ( ARMINES ) which is a major player in technological innovation and industrial development in France.
Mission
Created in 1843 for the purposes of the mining industry, the École des Mines d’Alès is now a general engineering Grande Ecole, 160 diploma engineers annually. Pedagogy-innovative action can give them, besides a very strong scientific and technical training, the entrepreneurial and management basics that make them “engineer-entrepreneurs.” The School also provides specialized training in the areas of information technology and communication as well as the environment, and comprises a total of 700 students.
