Elms College
The College of Our Lady of the Elms, often called Elms College or simply Elms, is a Catholic liberal arts college located in Chicopee, Massachusetts. Founded as a girls’ academy in 1899, it became a women’s college in 1928 and started admitting men in 1998.
Our mission is to provide academic challenges in a nurturing environment to enable you to leave Elms College richer than you started — rooted in faith, educated in mind, compassionate in heart, responsive to civic and social obligations, and capable of adjusting to change without compromising principle.
We pride ourselves on the fact that we are able to offer both the advantages of a small college atmosphere and the opportunities of a large university. Our strong liberal arts core bolsters programs that prepare you for the professional world immediately after graduation.
Elms College is a co-educational, Catholic, liberal arts college, and the College affirms its original goal of combining education for life with education for a career. Founded to educate women, the College offers liberal arts and professional education at the baccalaureate and masters levels, and is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, the accrediting agency for schools and colleges in the six New England states.
Elms College offers undergraduate and graduate programs leading to associate, bachelor’s, and master’s degrees, and certificates of advanced graduate studies.
Mission
The mission of the Elms proclaims the intellectual tradition of the Catholic Church, and in a spirit of ecumenism, it welcomes students, faculty and staff of other traditions. The Judaeo-Christian heritage enunciated in theological studies and celebrated in liturgical worship inspires, develops and fosters an understanding of scholarship through the liberal arts. Also from the common vision of the centrality of Christ and His Gospel teaching come value systems which are characterized by a commitment to the service of others, a service that seeks just solutions to the many problems of today’s world.
