Query: When I apply foundation or pressed powder, it appears blotchy and does not go on smoothly. It makes my face look terrible! How do I get a smooth, seamless finish?

Answer. One of the reasons make-up does not go on smoothly is because the skin is not moisturised right. A good primer – a light serum-like product – will even out skin, tighten pores, and prepare the base for the rest of the make-up. The good thing about using primer is that it keeps the skin fresh for hours. YSL and Shiseido have an excellent primer for oily skin. After primer, apply sunscreen and pressed powder for day and gold-tinted mosturiser [try Lancôme’s tinted mosituriser] for a natural yet flawless evening look.

The second thing that I think everyone should have when applying foundation is a foundation brush. It works like magic. Look for one with an angled edge – MAC, Chanel and Clinique have good brushes. The brush does not have soft bristles like a loose powder brush; it has tightly placed bristles that help foundation disappear, evenly blending beautifully into skin.
