Georgetown University is a private, Jesuit university whose main campus is located in the Washington, D.C. neighborhood of Georgetown. The oldest Catholic university in the United States, Georgetown administers 180 programs in four undergraduate schools, three graduate and professional schools, and several specialized institutes. Founded in 1789, the same year the U.S. Constitution took effect, Georgetown University is the nation’s oldest Catholic and Jesuit university. The university is co-educational and has around 7,000 undergraduate and over 8,000 post-graduate students, who in most years come from all 50 U.S. states and over 120 countries. Campus groups include the nation’s oldest student theater group and the largest student-run business. Georgetown University employs approximately 1,268 full-time and 689 part-time faculty members across its three Washington, D.C. campuses, with an additional thirty-two at SFS-Qatar.The faculty comprises leading academics and notable political and business leaders, and are predominantly male by a two-to-one margin.
