Georgia Southern University is a regional public university located on a 700-acre (2.8 km2) campus in Statesboro, Georgia, USA.[2] Founded in 1906, it is part of the University System of Georgia and is the largest center of higher education in the southern half of Georgia offering 100 academic majors in a comprehensive array of baccalaureate degrees and master’s and doctoral programs.

Georgia Southern was reclassified as a doctoral/research institution in April 2006 by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching.[7] Academic standards at the university have increased dramatically in the last decade. For the 2009 fall semester, the average SAT score for incoming freshman was more than 1106, an increase of 119 points.

We are a Carnegie Doctoral-Research university providing the classic residential campus experience. Georgia’s largest and most comprehensive center of higher education south of Atlanta, every state and 103 nations are represented in the student body. The University’s hallmark is student-centered education for undergraduate and graduate students alike.
