Gujarat National Law University (GNLU) is the statutory university established by the Government of Gujarat under the Gujarat National University Act, 2003.[1] This University is based in the city of Gandhinagar, which is the capital of Gujarat and is located 30 kilometers north to the metropolitan city of Ahmedabad. The University started its official functioning in the year 2004 and has five batches of 160 students each, currently under training.

“The objectives of the University,” the GNLU Act 2003 proclaims, ” shall be to advance and disseminate learning and knowledge of law and legal processes and their role in national development: to develop in the students and the research scholars sense of responsibility to serve society in the field of law by developing skills in regard to advocacy, legal services, legislation, parliamentary practice, law reforms and such other matters; to make law and legal processes efficient instruments of social development; and to promote inter-disciplinary study of law in relation to management, technology, international cooperation and development.”

Centres of Excellence
Gujarat National Law University aims to create Centres of Excellence in particular fields of law over the years. They are:

  • School of Law, Science and Technology
  • School of Public Law and Policy Sciences
  • School of Criminal Law and Criminology
  • School of Law and Economics
  • School of Personal Laws
  • School of Social Sciences
  • School of Physical and Life Sciences
  • School of Studies in ADR Mechanism
