Herat University is located in the city of Herat, capital of Herat province, in western Afghanistan. Herat University, as one of the governmental organizations of Higher Education in Afghnistan, was inaugurated in 1988 due to the highly request of open minded and educated people resuming with faculty of Literature & Humanities.

Heart University has 37 Departments, 210 teachers , more than 6000 students. In 2006, about 6000 students are enrolled in Herat University in different faculties that 71 percent of them are male and 29 percent are female students. However, during the Taliban regime, there was no chance for females to study but still we have 35% female students and we hope to increase the number of our female students in next years.
