How do Injuries heal?

All living creatures have a healing system naturally which helps us in the cure of superficial injuries like a scratch wound or minor cut. They can heal without the need of surgical manipulations. As soon as the skin gets cut, blood from broken blood vessels floods that wound. A protein called fibrin which is present in the blood quickly forms long fibres which weave together in a tangled mesh or clot. The clot closes the wound and stop bleeding. It also helps in preventing infection and later dries into a scab.

When the blood clots, white blood cells move into the wound. They attack any invading bacteria and dispose off damaged cells. Under the clot, skin cells at the edge of the cut divide and begin to bridge the cut. Within 4 to 5 days the bridge thickens to form a new layer of skin. Then the dry scab comes off within 6 or 7 days. The healing process is completed when a new layer of skin below is revealed.
