Indian Institute of Technology Indore
IIT Indore is one among the new IITs. It started from the academic year 2009-10. IIT Indore is an autonomous engineering and technology institute of higher education. It will come up in 525 acre of land at Simrol, 25 km from Indore. Union Human Resources Development Minister Mr. Arjun Singh laid the foundation-stone of the Institute on 17 February 2009. IIT Bombay is currently mentoring IIT Indore. IIT Indore also offers Ph.D. programmes in Engineering (Computer Science, Electrical and Mechanical), Sciences (Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics), and Humanities and Social Sciences (Economics, English and Philosophy).
Mission and Vision
The driving force behind the 21st century is the development of knowledge-intensive societies. This awareness has led to the creation of new institutes of higher learning in India in the past few years. Indian Institute of Technology Indore, established in 2009, is part of this mega-project that envisages India as a Global Technology Leader. Continuing with the tradition of the older IITs, IIT Indore aims to play an active role in this task of propelling India on her growth-trajectory by focusing on education, research and development. IIT Indore visualizes this mission within the context of larger humanistic concerns.
Library
he Central Library at IIT Indore is rapidly developing its collection of books, reference books, periodicals, and electronic resources. The Text Book Collection in the Library provides vital support for on-going undergraduate teaching programme. The books are on various disciplines ranging from Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Economics, and Philosophy.
