Institut Textile et Chimique de Lyon was born in 1988 from the merger of the ESITL and EFT, both schools of higher learning established on the initiative of professionals. The Institut Textile et Chimique de Lyon (Graduate School of Textile Industries of Lyon), was founded in 1840, embodying the unique tradition of the Lyon silk. EFT (French School of Tannery), founded in 1899, meanwhile, is an antenna in the Institute of Industrial Chemistry, Institut Textile et Chimique de Lyon in the field of leather and the Plastics (the CNAM) before to have a department in 1969 Paints, Inks and Adhesives in 1983 and become the ESCEPEA, School of Leather and Paints, Inks and Adhesives.

Absorption of Institut Textile et Chimique de Lyon in 1988 gave birth to the Institut Textile et Chimique de Lyon and spawned the creation of a Textile Department. ITECH, holder of the professional expertise of these two schools mothers, has successfully exploit the complementarity of their teachings and the close links they have always maintained with the corporate world. To these advantages plus an evolving educational programs that systematically integrate new tools and technological developments.
