The Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt is a Roman Catholic university in Eichstätt and Ingolstadt, Bavaria, Germany.
Although first established as the Catholic Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt in April 1980, the CU continues an almost 450 year tradition of higher education. Our university is an academic community that seeks to impart knowledge and interpersonal skills while building on a foundation of Christian values. The Katholische Universität Eichstätt-Ingolstadt has had the name “Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt” since 2001 because in addition to the seven faculties in Eichstätt, the Ingolstadt School of Management was founded in 1989 on the oldest university site in Bavaria and, in the meantime, has become home to nearly every fourth student registered at the CU.
Library
In February 2007 it was revealed that the university library had recycled 80 tons of books and journals, of which 68.4 tons had been donated from the central library in Altötting of the Bavarian Capuchin monasteries. This is about one quarter of the 300,000 volumes of philosophy and theology donated for the purpose of being included in university library’s collections. An inquest ordered by the Government of the Free State of Bavaria concluded that no valuable books had been destroyed.
