KCA University dates back to 1989, with the establishment of the institution as Kenya College of Accountancy by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK) to improve the quality of accountancy and financial management training in the country.

KCA University was established as a private university vide a gazette notice No. 6895 and shall be the successor to the institution hitherto known as the Kenya College of Accountancy.
