Kigali Institute of Education (KIE) is a young public institution of higher learning in Rwanda, which was founded in 1999 and legally established under Kigali Institute of Education statute law No. 49/2001 of 27/12/2001. The establishment and operation of Kigali Institute of Education was made possible by combined efforts of the Rwandan government as major stakeholder, and assistance from various donors including the World Bank, African Development Bank, Swiss Co-operation, Belgian Co-operation, DFID, USAID, German Cooperation, the French Co-operation and the Netherlands.

An institution of higher education, which is an internationally known centre of excellence producing professionally qualified teachers and other professionals in high quality research environment that promotes community services.
Mission
To train high-calibre school teachers and teacher educators to meet local needs. To provide professional higher education to support the development of Rwanda. To develop the potential of staff to provide stimulating intellectual environment within which students are facilitated to become competent, autonomous and responsible practitioners.
Library
The Kigali Institute of Education library started at the beginning of the Institute in 1999. Its vision is to effectively employ information technology in selection, processing and dissemination of information so as to enhance value-added services to the library users.
