The Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln (in short, KHM), founded in 1990 is a state art school in Cologne with a major in Media Arts .
The Kunsthochschule für Medien Köln is an initiative of the Social Democratic government of North Rhine-Westphalia. In the early 1980s, the then-science minister sat Anke Brunn for the creation of an art school in Cologne. But instead of the FH Cologne work schools – to appoint the third Academy of Art in NY, it was decided to close the schools and they start to work as an art school for new media.
The study began operating on 15 October 1990, first with additional training and further education courses. Since 1994, the eight-semester diploma program is offered audiovisual media. Since the summer semester 2011 he is renamed “Media Arts”. The inclusion of the academic year began in temporary accommodation in Overstolzenhaus and at the Peter-Welter-Platz 2 In the next 15 years became more and another site discussion – Ehrenfeld to lime, by the Media Park to the Rheinauhafen or Ossendorf that found at the beginning of the winter semester 2005/2006, the move into the new building complex at Filzengraben 2 graduated. The settlement of the art school on the outskirts of the city had always been ruled out categorically, the interim rentals of up to ten other buildings around the Peter-Welter-Platz and Filzengraben had always shown that the KHM are located in a central, urban environment and permanently anchored needs to be.
