In 1977, Martin University, a haven of hope was created, in the midst of the inner city barriers to academic success, to offer opportunities for the ordinary and disenfranchised persons to change their destinies through education. The University is recognized as an institution that offers access and opportunities to persons who have been discounted, discouraged and disregarded in the educational attainment process. Martin University is a distinctive institution that is future oriented, interconnected, and learning-centered. The University is a non-denominational, private, liberal arts institution with over 1,500 Alumni.

Martin University is located in Indianapolis, Indiana minutes from downtown on the near east side of the city. You may come to the campus by traveling on Sherman Drive (southwest corner of E.22nd St. and Sherman Drive). If traveling by interstate use I-70 East to Indianapolis, take the Rural/Keystone, Exit 85A or I-70 West to Keystone Ave. Exit 85 and following the signs (the campus is about one mile east of Keystone Avenue).

The University’s historical mission is to serve low income, minority, and non-traditional learners in a freedom and healing-minded environment. Approximately 95% of the students attending Martin University receive financial aid. Low-income women comprise two-thirds (2/3) of the student body. Martin University is a communiversity that plays a unique role in the Indianapolis community. Many graduates have gone on to become distinguished citizen leaders. Some outstanding graduates include the current Deputy Mayor for the City of Indianapolis, Administrator for the Pike Township Fire Department, Marion County Sheriff, Marion County Chaplain, McDonald’s Franchise Owner, Pastor of a 16,000 member church, clergymen, social workers, daycare workers and owners, police officers and published authors.

Mission
Martin University’s mission is to educate low-income, minority, and adult learners, while welcoming all persons as students, staff, and faculty in a healing and freedom-minded environment.

VISION
Martin University’s vision is to become a premier leader among its peer group as an institution preparing ordinary persons so that they will be able to perform extraordinary tasks as citizen leaders. To accomplish the vision, the future focus of the institution will be as follows: (1) Expanding and enhancing curricular offerings in high demand fields so students are competitive in the global workforce; (2) Connecting the campus and community to the world through the expansion of technology; (3) Building business and community partnerships for extension of experiential learning and community building; and (4) Ensuring student success through career connections.
