No Board Exam for Class X from 2011

Union Human Resource Minister Kapil Sibal announced on September7, the abolition of Class X Board Examinations. Beginning 2011, students will be promoted to Senior Secondary through an internal assessment. The students will be graded into nine Categories, from Exceptional to Unsatisfactory. The grading system is just for CBSE for the time being. If it works, it could push other boards also to change their systems.

Grade Separators:
A1-Exceptional (10 grade point):  91-100
A2-Excellent (9 grade point):  81-90
B1-Very Good (8 grade point):  71-80
B2-Good (7 grade point):  61-70
C1-Fair (6 grade point):  51-60
C2-Average (5 grade point): 41-50
D-Below Average (4 grade point): 33-40
E1-Needs Improvement (‘—–’ grade point): 21-31
E2- Unsatisfactory (‘—–’ grade point): 0-20
