Founded in 1958, the Oulun yliopisto is Finland’s largest multidisciplinary universities. Research is carried out in all the university institutes, departments and laboratories. In addition, the University operates between the faculties of specialist research units.

Oulun yliopisto is profiled in the future weight of four areas, which are life sciences and health, information technology, cultural identity and interaction as well as the environment, natural resources and materials. High-quality research work includes a long-term basic and applied, based on the research and development.

Oulun yliopisto to train specialist multi-disciplinary experts and professionals in six of eight faculty in the education sector for 45 different degree programs. All fields can be carried out postgraduate licentiate and a doctorate degree. Students have the opportunity to study a number of international exchange programs between universities and through the agreements. Cooperation of research institutes, universities, industry and economy, as well as with international connections are an important part of teaching and research. Northern Finland, the welfare-oriented education, research and development work carried out in several locations in the provinces of Oulu and Lapland.
