The origins of Teacher Education in Karlsruhe date back to 1757. At that time, the first “candidate school” trained and tested. The foundation of the Pädagogische Hochschule Karlsruhe of Education took place in its present form in 1962. There are approximately 3000 students, supervised by about 180 teachers.
Today is a theory-based and practice-oriented, international and interdisciplinary teacher education for primary, elementary and secondary school teachers most important task of the university. An important focus is the European model teacher since 1999, the nation’s first undergraduate degree program with a focus on bilingual teaching and learning in the target languages, English or French.
With a bachelor degree courses “Language Promotion & Physical Education” and “sport health leisure” the university has its profile in academic and professional perspective and expands response to social processes of change in recent years.
The Pädagogische Hochschule Karlsruhe is located in the center of the city of Karlsruhe, with other universities, representing among others the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), and major research institutions is an important scientific center. The PH Karlsruhe cooperated in various fields with the KIT, the Pädagogische Hochschule Karlsruhe, the Academy of Music and with facilities in the city of Karlsruhe.
