Purdue University North Central is a campus of more than 4,000 students and is a part of the Purdue University system. Students may choose from two master’s degree programs, a variety of bachelor’s and associate degrees, as well as courses that prepare them for transfer to West Lafayette or other campuses. It is located just south of the intersection of I-80 and US 421.
Purdue University became a presence in the area shortly after World War II when the University began offering technical courses at “extension centers” in more than 40 sites around Indiana, including LaPorte and Michigan City. The centers offered Purdue’s complete freshman engineering program, as well as a two-year technical institute.
Purdue University North Central teams are members of NAIA and compete within the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. Intercollegiately, Purdue University North Central sponsors a men’s basketball team, a men’s baseball team, a women’s volleyball team, and a women’s softball team. The moniker of Purdue University North Central’s teams is the Panther Boilers. The official mascot is Pounce, the Panther Boiler.
