The University of Tanta is an Egyptian university in the city of Tanta, Al Gharbiyah governorate, Egypt. The university is under the direct scientific supervision of the Ministry of Higher Education.

In 1962 the decree of United Arab Republic president No. 1647 was issued for establishing the Faculty of Medicine, University of Alexandria and its location is in the city of Tanta. In 1969 the decree of United Arab Republic president No. 1088 was issued for establishing some new faculties in some universities like the Faculty of Commerce, Tanta and its nucleus is the Higher Commercial Institute at Tanta of the Ministry of Higher Education, the faculties of science and teachers in Tanta, and the Faculty of Agriculture at Kafr El-Sheikh and its  nucleus is the higher agricultural Institute at Kafr El-Sheikh’s of Ministry of Higher Education, and  all of them followed to Alexandria University.

Tanta University, an educational research institution, is seeking to develop and disseminate knowledge in the fields of science, various arts, and develop their own capabilities to achieve an advanced position among the Egyptian and Arab universities and international organizations and contribute to society in economic and social development and preserve the intellectual and cultural legacies of the Egyptian people, and supports human rights and preserve the environment , is committed to the spiritual , ethical and professional values.

University aims at  providing excellent opportunities for higher education in various fields and at all levels in accordance with high academic standards, to those which the people of the Egyptian society and others, to equip them to contribute to the economic and social development.
