The College at Brockport

The College at Brockport is a true learning community in which students, faculty and staff all contribute to and celebrate the success of others. Every student is recognized as a dynamic, multi-dimensional individual rich with promise. Through the many ways there are to learn, contribute and excel here, we help to awaken the scholar, the athlete, the artist, and the entrepreneur within. Our students are busy – on campus, in the community, and around the world – being active scholars and engaged citizens.

Our accomplished faculty and dedicated staff have the same commitment to student success that their predecessors had in 1835, the year our College was founded. Our 464-acre campus includes classrooms, labs, performance spaces and athletic facilities that meet the latest standards for functionality, design and enjoyment.

The completion of the Erie Canal in 1825 helped to create a thriving center for agriculture and commerce in what would become the Village of Brockport. Incorporated in 1829 and named for Heil Brockway, the largest landowner in the area, the flourishing canal port town focused its attention on building churches, good roads and schools. With a donation of cash and land from Brockway, the village leaders partnered with the New York Baptists to build the first institution of higher education west of Colgate University. The first “College at Brockport” welcomed its first students in 1835.
