Thomas More College is a small, liberal arts college with a big reputation among educators and experts alike. Thomas More has been included in Money magazine’s “Best College Buys” issue. It also was recognized by the Carnegie Foundation for Advancement of Teaching as a ‘selective liberal arts college.’

Founded in 1921 by the Benedictine Sisters as Villa Madonna College, Thomas More now serves approximately 1,900 full- and part-time students from across the country and around the world on its beautiful campus in Crestview Hills, Kentucky, just minutes from downtown Cincinnati.

The Thomas More College campus is friendly and comfortable creating a peaceful community committed to nurturing the whole person. Just 10 minutes from downtown Cincinnati, the campus is situated on 100 acres of beautiful rolling hills, with the scenic Ohio River nearby. Student activities are as diverse as the student body itself. The Holbrook Student Center is the social and spirtual hub. Commuters and on-campus residents alike can depend on a safe and fun learning environment on the Thomas More campus.

Thomas More has not always been located in Crestview Hills – nor has it always been called Thomas More College.

The Benedictine Sisters of Covington, Kentucky, founded Villa Madonna College in 1921 to train Catholic school teachers and to provide college education for young women. The college was chartered by the Commonwealth of Kentucky in 1923. Villa Madonna graduated its first students in 1929 and sponsorship changed from the Benedictine Sisters to the Diocese of Covington the same year. Three religious orders operated Villa Madonna in its early years: the Sisters of Notre Dame, the Congregation of Divine Providence and the Benedictine Sisters.

Although founded as an institution for women, men attended many of the same classes through the Villa Madonna – affiliated St. Thomas More College. In 1945, Villa Madonna was designated a co-educational college and St. Thomas More College was abolished.

Thomas More College has established a national reputation for excellent educational value. Our graduates have either successfully moved into the workforce – where they can put into place the knowledge gained here – or applied their degrees to further study at another institution of higher learning, or here at Thomas More.
