Universitas Tanjungpura was established on May 20, 1959 as a private university under the name of National Power University by College Foundation of National Power. Faculty at the time was first established scholars and young scholars in the area of West Kalimantan. National Power University, State University later nationalized into Pontianak (UNEP) based on the Decree of the Minister of PTIP No. 53 of 1963, dated May 16, 1963.
In accordance with the political developments and the state in 1965, renamed the Universitas Tanjungpura Dwikora on September 14, 1965. Furthermore, with the Presidential Decree No. 171 of 1961 as of August 15, 1967, set back from the University Dwikora name change to the University Tanjungpura (UNTAN) which eventually survived until now. Until now, UNTAN has 8 faculties with education up to Strata Two (S2).
In 2020 Universitas Tanjungpura became Tanjungpura institution and preservation of scientific information center west Kalimantan and produce outcomes that Pancasila moral and able to compete at the regional, national, regional and international
Education, research, and community service is so qualified, and memajukanilmu knowledge, technology and the arts and to provide direction for the development in accordance with their respective disciplines.
