The Universität Bremen with 250 professors and 17,000 students a medium sized university with a broad range of subjects. Universität Bremen offers more than 100 courses in 30 academic disciplines. The university has early adopted the new Bachelor and Master structure and has been honored by the Rectors’ Conference as “Bologna University.”
Universität Bremen was founded in 1971 and has developed in its still young history of the science center in northwest Germany. Some of the chosen establishment in new ways, as “Bremer model”, are now considered the features of modern universities. Examples are interdisciplinary, research-based project learning, practical orientation and social responsibility (see also Sustainability Report of the University.
Universität Bremen for many years one of the leaders of the German universities. In both rounds of Excellence initiative by federal and state governments, it has exceptionally done well and get three institutions of excellence grants: two Graduate schools and clusters of excellence. The University of Bremen is a young university: it was founded in 1971. In a time of social regeneration was the “Bremer” model. Its core elements are still valid and have the extraordinary research achievements has made it all possible: interdisciplinary, research-based learning in projects, practical experience and responsibility towards society. New guiding principles have been added: the internationalization of teaching and research, gender equality, respect for the environment.
