The Universität Mannheim is one of the leading universities in Germany. This is proven by the fact that the university is awarded within the national “ Excellence Initiative”, by the Mannheim Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences being funded. Numerous rankings, awards and evaluations also attest to the quality of research and teaching at the University of Mannheim.

The Universität Mannheim offers a wide range of study programs enabling students to complete either a Bachelor and Master degree or State Examination. Internationally renowned doctoral studies complete the range, offered by the Graduate School of Economic and Social Sciences (GESS) and the Graduate Program “Formations of the Global”. In the field of business education the Mannheim Business School (MBS) with its MBA-Programmes is among the Top 25 institutions worldwide.

In 1955 the public Business School (“Staatliche Hochschule”) moved into the east wing of Mannheim’s baroque palace. The Business School used to be the “Commercial College” (Handelshochschule) which was founded in 1907. In 1939, under the Nazi’s regime, it was closed. The college was re-established in 1946.

As a result of its history, development and present structure, the Universität Mannheim has a special profile. This profile is shaped by the widely recognized Economics and Social Science faculties and their linking up with the achievement-oriented Arts and Humanities and Law Faculties as well as with Business Informatics and Mathematics. In Mannheim there is an interdisciplinary system in research and teaching. The mutually complementary nature of all subjects is the university’s unique feature, which guarantees the sustained success of its scientists and graduates in national and international competition.’
