The University of Lubumbashi (UNILU) is a public university in the Democratic Republic of Congo , based in the city of Lubumbashi . Founded in 1955 , the university called in sequence: Official University of the Congo and Rwanda-Urundi , State University of Elisabethville , Congo Official University , National University of Congo / Lubumbashi Campus , National University of Zaire / Campus Lubumbashi and finally University of Lubumbashi . It has nearly 33,000 students in 10 faculties and 3 colleges. Its rector is Chabu Mumba.

The university was founded in 1955 as a University official of Congo and Rwanda-Urundi by the University of Liege ( Belgium ), and is open in 1956. In 1960 , it is replaced by the State University of Elisabethville , to become the Official University of Congo in 1963.
