The University of Jammu, came existence in 1969 vide Kashmir and Jammu Universities Act 1969. The university offers undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral programs. There are many affiliated and recognized colleges. The campuses of University of Jammu are in Bhaderwah, Kathua and Poonch with an accent on vocational courses. Of these campuses, the Bhaderwah Campus is nearest to completion with its building coming up in the land allotted to the Campus at Sungli village.

The campus of university is 585 kilometers away from the capital of India (Delhi), situated at the foothills of Trikuta, besides the river Tawi at an altitude of 1030 ft. is Jammu, a historical city. The beautiful campus of the University ofJammu is located in the City of Temples – Jammu Tawi. It has two campuses – New Campus at Bahu Wali Rakh, with an area of about 118.70 acres and another small old campus at Canal Road, having an area of 10.5 acres.
