Univerzitet u Banjoj Luci was established on 07 November 1975th year. During the establishment of the University there were five three more schools. Medical Faculty was established in 1978. year. Later they established other faculties: Agriculture and Forestry in 1992, Philosophy in 1994, Architecture and Civil Engineering in 1995, Natural Sciences in 1996, Academy of Arts 1999, Faculty of Physical Education and Sport in 2001, and Philology, Faculty of Political Science and Mining 2009.

Univerzitet u Banjoj Luci has 16 faculties with 52 programs of study which is about 650 professors, 400 assistants and 450 administrative staff. Currently studying at the University of 17,000 students. So far, the University of Banja Luka have graduated more than 19,000 students, 700 specialists, 650 masters and 300 doctorates.

Most of the Univerzitet u Banjoj LuciLuka is located in two campuses located near the banks of the river Vrbas, near the city center. The campuses are dormitories with restaurants, sporting events, student clubs and University Computer Center. University of Banja Luka has adequate classrooms of various shapes and sizes, from auditoriums, medium and smaller classrooms,reading rooms and libraries, laboratories and computer rooms.
