In the 44 years of its existence, first as a College of Advanced Technical Education (1966 -1979) then as Vaal Triangle Technikon (1979 – 2003), Vaal University of Technology (VUT) has grown in stature as a higher education institution, drawing students from all over the country and 25 other countries. Vaal University of Technology is one of the largest Universities of Technology, with about 21 000 students. This position enables it to make a substantial contribution to the development of human resources in the Southern Gauteng region, the country and the continent.
The university boasts excellent facilities conducive to learning, research, recreation and sport, art and culture, and community engagement. The Vanderbijlpark campus is situated on 4.6 hectares of land with a state-of the-art library, lecture halls, laboratories, auditoriums and offices. Three satellite campuses extend the academic business of the University into Secunda, Kempton Park, and Upington. An extension to the main campus is located in Sebokeng. The are four faculties, covering Engineering and Technology, Applied and Computer Science, Human Sciences and Management Sciences.
