Yogi Vemana University
Yogi Vemana University, Kadapa, a State University established by an Act of the State Legislative Assembly, Govt. of Andhra Pradesh, in the year 2006-07. The University is now in the process of planning of Academic and Research Programme. There are 16 Academic Departments existing in the University (most of them were from the P.G. Centre). We have begun an exercise and a detailed analysis of the present courses, future courses and research areas that not only include fundamental topics but also applied research. This University, because of its recent origin has no usual academic bodies, such as Board of Studies, Academic Council, etc. Nor there is sufficient number of Faculty Members at present. In view of this a Consultative / Advisory mechanism is to be setup in place, in order to move forward with the agenda of the University.
Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh donated his 312 acres (1.26 km2) of land to build West Campus. A modern concept school, which is called 21st Century Gurukul. The university is named after Yogi Vemana is known for his philosophical teachings, alchemy and practicing Raja Yoga. Children are taught his teachings and poems at school as part of regular syllabus and moral science at schools.
The objectives of the Yogi Vemana University are creation and dissemination of knowledge and advancing the well-being of the people of Andhra Pradesh and India. The University is envisioned as an outstanding public University in the State promoting excellence in teaching and research. The University will provide high quality broad based educational programs having a strong foundation based on true knowledge, understanding and compassion.
